For those of you who could not attend this month's student forum, here is a summary of what happened:
- Topic approval 1844, second Fady
- Specific questions from Dr. Stoner: Dr. Robinson will be teaching Nursing Research
- Status of ATI books:
- can we somehow study from one textbook instead of a textbook + ati?
i. NCLEX doesn’t get information from one textbook, it gets its info from multiple sources
ii. NCLEX doesn’t focus on the nitty gritty details, but more on general concepts
iii. Faculty has no mindset to change anything
iv. Faculty will contact ATI and ATI has available updates for students
1. Updates will be under RN review modules on home page
a. Updates contain distracters
- Insufficient credits from Ginger(classmate)
- Issues with enrollment, doing a survey together to see student thoughts, research process to see other options to get credits
- Psych rotation and problems with Patton
- Patton is unfamiliar with quarter nursing schools, many students’ info got lost in the process, Lorena working with Patton to solve problem,
- ATI with Paula
- Focused review
i. Possibility of going “green”
1. Online would be more up to date as NLCEX material changes
2. Saves money
3. eBooks would be available
ii. Not specific and focused enough, if you miss one question they will ask you to review the whole chapter and not that specific section. Feedback not specific enough: ATI is basically telling us to reread the book
iii. To access, go to My Results and Remediation and click on the Focused Review tab
1. **Note: focused review is only available for 2007 A or B tests
- Discussing ideas and opportunities for clinical time outside of hospital
- Becoming a CNA after completing 1st quarter
- Missions and organizations that go abroad
i. Lighthouse of OC: trips every year to different countries, lots of clinical experiences
ii. Hope for housing: local option, rotate quarters
- Obtaining LVN license
- Faculty looking into opportunities in community: could be integrated into curriculum or clinical hours
- Health Fair and dept. faculty role, and Dr. Stoner’s research
- Objective of Health Fair: help students learn about grant process, work with PDC, different dept. on campus, health education, employment, stress reduction
- LifeStream: training class for bone marrow, student health center: screen for STD and awareness, Indian health center: chemical dependency counseling and treatment for free, ombuds dept,
- Faculty: promote awareness, present research, offer extra credit, NURS399 credit,
- Possibility of establishing an organization for nursing alumni: potential for fundraising and improved hospital relationships
- Purpose of organization: we can have many events and we can rely on the alumni to contribute and share
- Need for a sign for the Nursing Dept?
- Photo copy of badge for lab access
- MUST HAVE ID TO GET IN
Meeting ends at 1940

Notes for CN
1. CSUSB Nursing isn't going to eliminate ATI. Need to address ATI grading policy. Get department to rewrite grading policy using ATI: HELPing Students powerpoint (see Matt for details). Additionally, ATI needs to present more affordable option for students who only wish to purchase required test. Bundling books/online materials is a SALESMAN technique and students are wasting money for unused items.
2. Credits. Difficult territory for students. As available classes on campus decrease, it will be more important for students to meet with advisers for class scheduling/planning.
3. Clinical Hours outside of facilities. Be careful about giving up in valuable in hospital opportunities. Hospitals looks for student experience in hospital when hiring. Motivate students to be better prepared and mannered when at facilities. Clinical placement is a BIG battle.
4. Health Fair/Inter-departmental work. Keep good logs and notes when working with other departments on campus. Building connections will last longer than students.
5. Alumni Organization. CSUSB already has Sigma Theta Tau Rho Beta Chapter for CSUSB graduates. Encourage CN to promote an eventually have senior student rep in STT Rho Beta.
6. Nursing Dept Sign - Fundraiser?
