"I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My undergraduate degree and graduate degrees are all from LSU: BS in 1974, MS in 1978 and PhD in 1982. All degrees were in mathematics. My area of specility in mathematics is called "commutative algegra". I started at CSUSB in 1982 as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. I was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in 1987. My rank is now Professor. My area of speciality is called "commutative algegra". I taught a wide variety of math courses from 1982 onward, at all undergraduate levels. If I recall correctly, I taught 11 different courses in my first four quarters at CSUSB.
In regards to service activities, at various times I was a member of the General Education Committee of the Faculty Senate, a member of the Faculty Senate, an officer of the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate and a member of the CSU Statewide Academic Senate. While on the CSU Academic Senate I served on several statewide committees. As for administrative experience, I was chair of the Department of Mathematics (1994-1997), Dean of the College of Natural Sciences (1997-1999) and Associate Provost for Academic Personnel (1999-2008)."
